Portions for Foxes—Rilo Kiley
There’s blood in my mouth ‘cause I’ve been biting my tongue all week,
I keep on talkin’ trash, but I never say anything,
And the talking leads to touching, and the touching leads to sex,
And then there is no mystery left.
And it’s bad news, baby, I’m bad news,
I’m just bad news, bad news, bad news.
I know I’m alone if I’m with or without you,
But just being around you offers me another form of relief,
When the loneliness leads to bad dreams,
And the bad dreams lead me to calling you,
And I call you and say, “C’mere!”
And it’s bad news, baby, I’m bad news,
I’m just bad news, bad news, bad news.
And it’s bad news, baby, it’s bad news,
It’s just bad news, bad news, bad news.
’Cause you’re just damage control
For a walking corpse like me, like you,
’Cause we’ll all be portions for foxes,
Yeah, we’ll all be portions for foxes.
There’s a pretty young thing in front of you,
And she’s real pretty, and she’s real into you,
And then she’s sleepin’ inside of you.
And the talking leads to touching, then the touching leads to sex,
And then there is no mystery left.
And it’s bad news,
I don’t blame you,
I do the same thing,
I get lonely, too.
And you’re bad news,
My friends tell me to leave you,
That you’re bad news, bad news, bad news.
You’re bad news, baby, you’re bad news,
And you’re bad news, baby, you’re bad news.
And you’re bad news,
I don’t care, I like you,
And you’re bad news,
I don’t care, I like you,
I like you.

No Light, No Light—Florence + The Machine
You are the hole in my head,
You are the space in my bed,
You are the silence in between what I thought
And what I said.
You are the night-time fear,
You are the morning when it’s clear,
When it’s over you’ll start—
You’re my head,
You’re my heart.
No light, no light in your bright blue eyes,
I never knew daylight could be so violent,
A revelation in the light of day,
You can’t choose what stays and what fades away.
And I’d do anything to make you stay,
No light, no light,
Tell me what you want me to say.
Through the crowd, I was crying out,
And in your place there were a thousand other faces.
I was disappearing in plain sight,
Heaven help me, I need to make it right.
You want a revelation,
You want to get it right,
But it’s a conversation
I just can’t have tonight.
You want a revelation,
Some kind of resolution,
You want a revelation.
No light, no light in your bright blue eyes,
I never knew daylight could be so violent,
A revelation in the light of day,
You can’t choose what stays and what fades away.
And I’d do anything to make you stay,
No light, no light,
Tell me what you want me to say.
Would you leave me
If I told you what I’ve done?
And would you need me
If I told you what I’ve become?
’Cause it’s so easy
To say it to a crowd,
But it’s so hard, my love,
To say it to you alone.
No light, no light in your bright blue eyes,
I never knew daylight could be so violent,
A revelation in the light of day,
You can’t choose what stays and what fades away.
And I’d do anything to make you stay,
No light, no light
Tell me what you want me to say.
You want a revelation,
You want to get it right,
But it’s a conversation
I just can’t have tonight.
You want a revelation,
Some kind of resolution,
You want a revelation.
You want a revelation,
You want to get it right
But it’s a conversation
I just can’t have tonight.
You want a revelation,
Some kind of resolution,
Tell me what you want me to say.

Say Goodnight—Beth Nielsen Chapman
Say goodnight, not goodbye,
You will never leave my heart behind.
Like the path of a star,
I’ll be anywhere you are.

Shake It Out—Florence + The Machine
Regrets collect like old friends,
Here to relive your darkest moments,
I can see no way, I can see no way,
And all of the ghouls come out to play,
And every demon wants his pound of flesh,
But I like to keep some things to myself,
I like to keep my issues drawn,
It’s always darkest before the dawn.
And I’ve been a fool, and I’ve been blind,
I can never leave the past behind,
I can see no way, I can see no way,
I’m always dragging that horse around,
Our love is pastured such a mournful sound,
Tonight I’m gonna bury that horse in the ground
’Cause I like to keep my issues drawn,
It’s always darkest before the dawn.
Shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, oh whoa,
Shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, oh whoa,
And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa.
I am done with my graceless heart,
So tonight I’m gonna cut it out and then restart,
’Cause I like to keep my issues drawn,
It’s always darkest before the dawn.
Shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, oh whoa,
Shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, oh whoa,
And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa.
And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back,
And given half the chance, would I take any of it back?
It’s a fine romance, but it’s left me so undone,
It’s always darkest before the dawn.
Oh whoa, oh whoa…
And I’m damned if I do, and I’m damned if I don’t,
So here’s to drinks in the dark at the end of my road,
And I’m ready to suffer, and I’m ready to hope,
It’s a shot in the dark and right at my throat,
’Cause looking for heaven, found the devil in me,
Looking for heaven, found the devil in me,
Well, what the hell, I’m gonna let it happen to me.
Shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, oh whoa,
Shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, oh whoa,
And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa.
Shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, oh whoa,
Shake it out, shake it out,
Shake it out, shake it out, oh whoa,
And it’s hard to dance with a devil on your back
So shake him off, oh whoa.

Doomsday (Doctor Who Soundtrack)—Murray Gold
I just bought the first three albums of Doctor Who music. I’m not crying, it’s just raining on my face. Shut up.
For Christmas this year, I gave my mom a digital version of an old cassette tape she loves to listen to. It has a bunch of old 80s music on it, plus some recordings of my family singing Christmas carols in 1986 and 1989.
This one is all of us singing Deck the Halls (I was 6 or so). It starts off pretty grainy/crackly, but it gets better about 10 seconds in. The loud bass you’ll hear is my grandfather. I’m honestly not sure if he was legitimately that bad a singer or if he was just fucking with us. Or, in hindsight, maybe he was just drunk. Those are all viable options.
It is always a good day to listen to the Weepies.
I just heard this again the other day and wanted to post it. Been in this kind of mood the last few days.
Chingon - Malaguena Salerosa
For today’s #themesong - “foreign.”
While this is a traditional Mexican song, this performance is solidly Tex-Mex, but I fell in love with this after seeing it on the special features from the Kill Bill Vol. 2 DVD.
Man, Robert Rodriguez can play some guitar.
