Klaus Biesenbach, director of MoMa’s PS1, loves a vacuum. For years, he lived in a nearly empty apartment on the Lower East Side. Last summer, he loaned the place to an artist friend, who brought in a sofa, table, and chairs and painted the whole place white. (Photos 1 and 2: Tony Cenicola/The New York Times)

At $1 a pop, Jesse McKinley, a reporter for The Times, set up his new apartment with objects he found at dollar stores, spending about $200 in total. One of my mother’s many Christmas decorations. Several more to come! [my flickr]
I don’t put up my own tree because I live down the street from my parents, and I’m always home for Christmas. But I have this little ceramic Christmas tree that was made by my grandmother or great-grandmother… somebody, I can never remember. [my flickr]
